On Tuesday evening, January 10th, 630pm, we will be featuring representatives of each campaign in a discussion/debate format, vying for your vote. We will take a vote before the discussion, to represent the club, but also one afterward. The change in votes will reflect who wins and loses. (We will also appoint our new officers, who ran for office without opposition.)

December Mtg (12/13@630pm): OC GOP Chair Lew Oliver + Fried Chicken + Nominations

We will be meeting this Tuesday (12/13) , 630pm at Gray Robinson (301 E. Pine St, 14th floor, Orlando, FL). Doors open at 6pm though. Parking is available in the garage across the street, just bring your ticket upstairs for validation. We have a fun and holiday themed meeting planned and I hope that you will be able to make it.

FIRST: We are excited to announce that the Chairman of the Orange County GOP, Lew Oliver, has agreed to come and speak to us! Lew is a terrific speaker who I believe will share his often prescient thoughts on the presidential race as well as ways we can make the difference that is needed in 2012.

SECOND: We ask you to bring toys to our meeting! As is our tradition during the Christmas season, we gather up as many toys as we can and give them to Toys for Tots. It’s not mandatory of course, but you should see the pile get going between 6 and 630pm.

THIRD: We will be bringing some Publix platters, including some of their fried chicken which is a favorite of the club’s, so that people will be able to enjoy both our customary drinks as well as food for this December meeting. So come to the meeting and bring a conservative friend– we have good reason to celebrate the cause.

FOURTH: We will be taking nominations for the 2012-13 OCYR officers: President, Vice President, Associate Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you have been a member since the July meeting, then you are eligible to run. We encourage any interested members to run and get involved. This will be a huge year for the club, and planning on our renowned election-year Hobnob has already begun. I have decided to not run for re-election, if that helps your decision for at least one position, LOL. Nominations will ONLY TAKE PLACE in December. Elections occur in January.

The next couple months are going to be very, very busy. We’re going to have debate watching parties, Margaret Thatcher socials, debates, and presidential primary activism. It is never too late to get involved or to bring others to the cause. If you have any suggestions, or want to get involved in any campaign (we currently have requests from Romney, Gingrich, and Mayor Ken Bradley for volunteers), then let me know.

To Attend A Special Movie Screening Of

WAITING FOR SUPERMAN

We will be showing the award-winning documentary WAITING FOR SUPERMAN (watch the trailer) on November 1st, 2011 at the Orlando Science Center’s large Darden Theater (seats 248). For those who do not know, the movie shows our decaying education system through some very real people, and explains why we should despair. It then shows us hope, and how we just might be able to turn this around and give every child the opportunity to change their destiny.

We will begin the movie shortly after 6:45pm, it should run until about 8:25, after which we will have an outstanding panel of speakers featuring the James Madison Institute’s Education Fellow William Mattox. This is a powerful movie that will resonate with anyone who is worried about the plight of those ostensibly receiving an education today in America and who wants to be a part of the discussion on how we can shift course toward giving children an opportunity to receive the education they need to not only survive, but climb their way up.

On our list of “Most Sought Speakers,” this one ranks right at the top. We’re very proud to announce the following for our October meeting:

The Mayor of Orange County, Teresa Jacobs, a Republican, has agreed to speak to us. This marks her first return to the OCYRs since her triumphant election as Mayor. Mayor Jacobs had a massive reserve of supports from our club during all phases of her campaign and has grown even more popular through her common sense approach to the job after election. Please be there BEFORE 6:30pm because the Mayor will begin speaking promptly at that time.

The OCYRs are excited to announce that we are having a distinctly Seminole-flavored meeting in August.

The Seminole County Supervisor of Elections, Mike Ertel, a Republican, has agreed to speak to us about changes in Election Law that affect our activism and the way elections will run henceforth. As part of our theme, the Seminole County Young Professional Republicans have generously agreed to join the fun and hold a meeting with us! We’re looking forward to welcoming them to our traditional meeting spot.

The Orange County Young Republicans are excited to announce that Marco Rubio’s predecessor, George LeMieux, who has now declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, is coming to our July meeting!! The Orange County Young Republicans will be doing things a little differently this meeting. Instead of starting at our usual meeting place on the 14th floor of 301 E. Pine Street in downtown Orlando, we will begin at the Embassy Suites at 191 E. Pine Street, just two buildings down at 5:30pm! We will be joining SEVERAL of our outstanding Central Florida state legislators who are gathering for a fundraiser.

Please return to our usual meeting place by 6:30pm so that we can begin the business portion of our meeting. We have several important things to take care of:

Voting on our new Constitution…
Passing out the new OCYR lapel pins…
Electing a new Associate Vice President of the club!

SUMMARY: Visit our awesome state legislators from 5:30 – 6:30pm at Embassy Suites (191 E. Pine St, Orlando, FL), then at 6:30 come back to Gray Robinson law firm 14th floor (301 E. Pine St, Orlando, FL) for our business meeting where we will do stuff.

The Orange County Young Republicans will be celebrating the women and men who serve the United States of America in the greatest military on Earth on Wednesday, May 25th at the All-American Cafe at the intersection of Fern Creek and Kaley Avenue in Orlando, FL starting at 630pm and running until 830pm.

If you are a member of the OCYRs, please RSVP by emailing President Waugh at ocyr.president@gmail.com ASAP, spots are limited.

The event is free and will include chicken wings, salads, subs, all-you-can-drink soda, beer and wine. We will have a special champagne toast during the event as well. ALL THAT WE ASK IS YOU BRING HYGIENE ITEMS OR SNACKS FOR OUR TROOPS. We will be sending them overseas.
